Description

Whitney Horse Barn. This barn is located 1.7 miles N of Maynard on Route 1885, then 400 ' W in a field (in the Austin Quad). It is part of what was the Whitney Plantation. The original barn was built in the 1920's, but the 6 columns were added by Andrew Whitney in 1930. These columns were actually from the Masonic Lodge in Bowling Green, KY. According to Albert Peterson (the geographer who conducted these surveys of properties/structures in KY), this is the most interesting barn in Allen County. It is also included on the National Register of Historic Places for Allen County.
