Abstract
Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 2541. Letter of James A. Enscore, written to his family while serving with the 56th Illinois Regiment encamped near the Memphis Railroad in Tennessee. James mentions his recovery from illness and the arrival of his brother(?) George, and asks for letters from family members. Both James and George were lost on the steamer General Lyon when it caught fire during a storm off Cape Hatteras on 31 March 1865.
