Abstract

Finding aid and scan (Click on "Additional Files" below) for Manuscripts Small Collection 997. Letter, 11 May 1919, written by William Swan Van Meter, Hardin County, Kentucky, to his mother while stationed in Germany serving with the American Expeditionary Forces. He notes General John J. Pershing’s request that every soldier write his mother that day (Mother’s Day), and describes military life as a soldier awaiting his next orders. Includes a photocopy of a photograph of Van Meter in uniform.
