Abstract

Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 1570. Civil War letter (Union), 1 January 1862, from Harris, with the 19th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteers, near Muddy Branch, Maryland, to his father. He makes comments about the war, the southern states, and his commander, Colonel Edward Winslow Hinks. Written on letterhead with a portrait of General George B. McClellan and the words "We have beat our last retreat!" in red and blue ink.
