Abstract

Photographs of John Minton or given to him by others. John Minton was born in Cadiz in Trigg County, Kentucky on July 29, 1921. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Kentucky and a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. Prior to coming to WKU, Minton served as principal of Trigg County High School from 1953 to 1958. He became Associate Dean of Graduate Instruction in 1962, then Graduate Dean, and Administrative Vice-President in 1970. John Minton was appointed interim president upon Dero Downing's retirement. He served in this capacity from January through July 31, 1979. In recognition of his service, the Board of Regents recognized Minton as Western's fifth president. At the time of his retirement in 1986, he held the position of Vice-President for Student Affairs.
