								<p>A painting as a map, a map as a work of art, here are both in one.  John Warren Oakes has used water colors to represent Bowling Green as it was in 1860.  The scale is approximate, but in the use of river bends, roads and railroads one can locate long gone features on a modern map.</p>

								<p>The full title is Traveler's Guide: A Map of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.  Extending from Pittsburgh to the Gulf of Mexico.  This map shows towns, cities and tributaries along the two rivers indicating distances between them.  Measuring 9 inches by 23 inches it is compact when folded in two and would be a handy reference guide when traveling along the rivers.</p>

								<p>The complete title of this map is Sketch of the Enemy's Fortified Position at and opposite Mill Springs, Kentucky, to which he retreated after his defeat at Logan's Cross-Roads; Sketch of the Battle-Field of Logan's Cross-Roads, Kentucky.  This military map shows the positions taken by the Union and Confederate forces at the battles of Mill Springs and Logan's Cross-Roads.  It is also a topographical map which is important for armies.  Lastly, it shows the locations of field hospitals, fortifications and graves.</p>
