Description

We upstairs & I changed clothes & freshened myself up a bit. Paul came in for a drink & then we all downstairs to have cocktails with Mr. & Mrs. Derffentorfer & later a marvelous dinner, to bed late. [Written upside down at top of page]

Diary entry Thursday May 6 - Interlaken

We up around 8 & I rushed around to get dressed as I had an appointment at the hairdresser's at 9. had only tea & orange juice which was canned. Will not have it in the morning. Finished about 10:30 but left Nell there having another session with the man. Up to the room, just as Duncan [Hines] & Paul came back from their flower seed buying. I put on my hat & cape & fared forth to buy some handkerchiefs. Instead met Paul who took me walking all around the town. It is quaint but not nearly so lonely as the old part of Lucerne. Walked down to the Kursaal & looked at the gardens. The flower clock which we went to see was not there, just flowers. Back to the hotel & I finally went after the hankies & I bought a mess of them again. I am not going into another shop anywhere. Back to the hotel to find Nell & Duncan just going down to lunch. So I joined them & we had most delectable food again. A beautiful consomme with cloves in, cheese souffle & a beautiful vegetable salad. After lunch put Duncan down for his nap, then Nell & I out with Paul to Grindelwald, which is a village just at the foot of the Jungfrau. It was really awe inspiring. When we left there we went to Lauterbrunnen to see the Trummelbach Falsl. They are really something. You have to walk up steps, up a hill take the lift up & then walk up and down again. It was a Magnificent spectacle of the great force of nature. The power was so great that even the Mountain trembled. Back to the hotel for picture only to find that Mr. Leggensdorfer thought we had a camera & we had no photographer, so will have to make them in the morning.
