Wallace, Alfred Russel, "On the Zoological Geography of the Malay Archipelago (1859)" (2009). Alfred Russel Wallace Classic Writings. Paper 4.
In this paper, presented (though not by Wallace himself, still in the East at that point) at the Linnean Society on 3 November 1859 (and published in their Zoological Proceedings series the next year), Wallace describes in detail for the first time the faunal discontinuity that would later bear his name: “Wallace’s Line.” The paper also offers interesting observations on island biogeography in general.
