Maynard Colored School, or Caney Fork School. It is located 700' SE from the intersection of Route 98 and Route 1855 on the left of Route 98 in the Austin Quad. This school was built between 1901 and 1925. It is the only black school in the Austin Quad still standing. It was built with money from the Rosenwald fund - a fund set aside by Julius Rosenwald in 1917 to improve the opportunities and living conditions for Negroes in America. Nate Holder, Charlie Whitney, and Henrietta Holder were instrumental in getting the school built.
