Note: Born in Germany, Kahn escaped the Holocaust by first moving to England in 1939 and the United States one year later when he was a teenager. He was celebrated for his use of color and received renown as a landscape painter. His obituary in the New York Times included this quote from a 1983 interview in the San Diego Union-Tribune, “I am attracted by the light, by the shifting horizons, by the variety and gentleness of the landscapes."
