Article regarding ball held in the gym to raise money for Warm Springs Foundation, the pet project of President Franklin Roosevelt.
Plans for President Roosevelt's Ball for Bowling Green to be held Tuesday night, January 30, are rapidly being completed, according to Mr. W.L. Hall who has been appointed chairman of the event.
Western Teachers College is cooperating in every way possible in this nation-wide occasion and has graciously permitted the celebration to be staged in the massive Western gymnasium. Music for the dancing will be furnished by Western's Red and Gray dance orchestra.
These balls are being held throughout the United States in approximately 5000 cities. The entire proceeds derived from them will be given to the Wearm Springs, Georgia, Foundation for sufferers from infantile paralysis.
Nine years ago, President Roosevelt went to Warm Springs for his health. While there, he noticed the rapid improvement of the paralytic patients who were fortunate enough to benefit from the treatments. He himself, had remarkable results from his visit. Ever since his first visit, it has been his desire to establish a fund whereby paralytic sufferers less fortunate financially than some would be able to reap the benefits of this resort.
Late in the year 1933, some of the President's friends conceived the idea of giving these balls on President Roosevelt's birthday, January 30th, and donating the returns to the Warm Springs Foundation Fund. The idea spread rapidly through the country, and it is a part of this humanitarian movement that Bowling Green is participating in.
Will B. Hill, of the College Heights Foundation, has been appointed by the executive committee, James Hall, Lawrence B. Finn, and C.M. Gaines, as director of all activities.
The program for the evening has been announced as follows: 8:00 to 8:30 Concert by College Heights 80 piece band 8:30 to 9:00 Series of costume dances 9:00 Grand March inaugurating the President's Ball 9:15 to 1:00 Dancing
At about 10:15 President Roosevelt's speech through a loud speaker system direct from the radio will be heard. This talk will be broadcast at every one of the city celebrations.
