Description

Letter from James Pope of the Louisville Courier-Journal to WKU president Kelly Thompson requesting information on the desegregation and numbers of blacks enrolled at WKU.

Dr. Kelly Thompson
President
Western Kentucky State College
Bowling Green, Kentucky

Dear Dr. Thompson:

I hope you will be able to provide me with a little information on racial desegregation at Western Kentucky State College. I am collecting this information primarily for inclusion in a statistical summary being prepared for SOUTHERN SCHOOL NEWS. We also would like to have answers for our files at The Courier-Journal. I would appreciate it very much if these questions could be answered:

What was the date of desegregation at your school?
Was it by court order or voluntarily?
    What is total enrollment?
How many white students now? How many Negroes? (Please make estimate if exact figures aren't available.)

Thanks very much for your help on this.

Sincerely yours,
James S. Pope, Jr.
