Description

College Heights Herald squib regarding possible lawsuit:

The American Civil Liberties Union has decided not to pursue a possible discrimination suit relating to the Miss Western pageant.

Bowling Green sophomore Lisa Caswell asked the ACLU for assistance last month when she was not allowed to enter the pageant because she had a child.

The ACLU didn't pursue the case because Caswell, 25, exceeds the 24 year age limit.

Caswell said she didn't know the age limit was 24.

"I was told by Judy Woodring (the pageant's coordinator) that the maximum age was 26," Caswell said. "I still don't understand why they can't file the suit regardless of age."

Caswell said she hopes a single mother under 24 will come forward to pursue the matter. She said she does not plan to seek more legal action.

Last month, President Thomas Meredith said he would investigate Caswell's discrimination claims. However, he said yesterday he has not yet had time to look into the matter.
