Counseling Concepts and Applications for Student Affairs Professionals (CNS 577)
Abstract
As young adults begin their experience on a college campus they can often times find themselves in a more open environment where the topic of sex can more readily be discussed. But, rarely are they given the opportunity to really ask the questions at the forefront of their minds on the topic of not only sex but sexual health. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation (2003) by the age of 24, one in four American’s will have contracted an STD. It is important to allow students the ability to gain the awareness they feel necessary to not only remain sexually and emotionally healthy, but also provide them the information to help them decide whether they are prepared to begin engaging in sexual activity.
