Counseling Concepts and Applications for Student Affairs Professionals (CNS 577)
Abstract
The pressures of being the “perfect” size while in college can be overwhelming for some individuals. These pressures weigh on many students minds (not just women) and may lead to an individual developing an eating disorder. Anorexia and Bulimia are two of the most common eating disorders among college students today (Reynolds, 2009). From personal interviews with college students and our research we have found that these two eating disorders, among many others, may have a huge impact on a student’s success while in college. Creating awareness about eating disorders, the effects, warning signs, and resources will help students begin to cope with the issue.
