Abstract

According to a recent study, nearly 30% of entering college students report feeling overwhelmed a great deal of the time. Furthermore, self-rated emotional health for incoming freshmen is at an all-time low (Pryor, Hurtado, DeAngelo, Palucki Blake & Tran, 2011) Students are at a high risk for experiencing a myriad of stressors which may test their ability to cope. This can be extremely dangerous as they may turn to unhealthy or unsafe coping methods to alleviate the tension. It is vital that we learn the signs and symptoms of excessive stress, how to cope, and what we can do to help.
