In this paper, presented (though not by Wallace himself, still in the East at that point) at the Linnean Society on 3 November 1859 (and published in their Zoological Proceedings series the next year), Wallace describes in detail for the first time the faunal discontinuity that would later bear his name: “Wallace’s Line.” The paper also offers interesting observations on island biogeography in general.
