Instructions for Authors
- Submissions will be accepted for review by the editor with the understanding that the content is unpublished and is not being simultaneously submitted for publication and/or review elsewhere.
- While an international audience is encouraged to submit manuscripts, only manuscripts written in English can be accepted for review and publication.
- Manuscript length is normally 20-30 (double-spaced) pages with a 12-point font, with one-inch margins on all sides.
- To be considered for publication, all manuscripts must be submitted for review as a Microsoft Word or RTF file through the Journal of Nonprofit Education and Leadership website: www.jnel.net
Copy must be prepared according to the following guidelines:
Form
- All materials must be typed, double-spaced (including abstract and references) and formatted for 8 1/2 x 11-inch paper using a 12-point Times New Roman font with one-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides (top, bottom, right, and left)
- All pages should be numbered consecutively in the upper right hand corner.
- Line numbers should appear through the entire manuscript for review procedures.
- A title page is not included with the manuscript at time of submission for review.
- Author name(s) should not appear in the manuscript to maintain anonymity during the review process. Exceptions would include in-text citations and references.
- Each table, drawing, illustration, photograph, map, etc. must be prepared and included within the text of the manuscript (not on separate pages) where the author would like the item to be placed. Tables, figures, etc. should be numbered and labeled according to guidelines in Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) (5th Ed.)
Abstract
- Each submission should be summarized in a 150 word maximum abstract.
- Submissions without an abstract will not be reviewed.
- The title of the submission should be included above the abstract.
- The abstract will preface the main body of the submission on a separate page and should enable the reader to get an overview of the entire paper, with particular attention to the need for the paper and possible professional implications as appropriate.
- Three to five key words describing the content of the submission and to be used for computer retrieval should be provided at the end of the abstract.
References
- Include only references to books, articles, reports, etc. actually cited in the manuscript.
- All references should follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) (5th Ed.).
- References in the text should cite the author's last name, year of publication, and page (where appropriate). For example, (Pine & Birch, 2008) or Pine and Birch (2008). Follow the 5th Edition of the Publication Manual for guidance on references where no author may exist (e.g., electronic resources).
- All references should appear on a Reference page at the end of the manuscript, not at the foot of each page. Follow the 5th Edition of the Publication Manual for guidance.
