Abstract
This thesis is a dramaturgical analysis of The House of Bernarda Alba, by Frederico Garcia Lorca, and a reflection upon the costume design, by the designer, in Western Kentucky University's production of the play. By examining the biography of the author and the culture surrounding the play, the themes of The House of Bernarda Alba and the effect of the themes upon the design process are explained. As well, in-depth character analysis is used to show the relation between characters and their costumes. The reflection upon the design process further illuminates how a dramaturgical analysis can be a vital tool for the designer.
