Description

Gainesville Medical Academy. This structure is located 1000' W of Bethel Baptist Church off of Gainesville-Port Oliver Road in the Scottsville Quad. It was built between 1850 and 1875 as a medical academy with the second story being used as a Masonic lodge. Later, it was used as the Gainesville school, and at the time of this survey, it was being used as a tobacco barn. This was one of the early schools in the county, inside the earliest community in the county (Gainesville dates back to the early 1800's.
