Despite Annie Fellows Johnston's admonition that the book should record good tims which could be read to get the diarist through bad times, in the diary of Marjorie Clagett who began her diary in 1911 after receiving it as a birthday gift included in her first entry: "There is something I must put down that isn't good times at least for me."
