Abstract
Finding aid only for Folklife Archives Project 1167. Student paper titled “Notes and Speculations on CountryAuctioneering As It Is Practiced in North Central Kentucky” in which Joseph King frames auctioneering as an expressive, lyrical performance similar to folk singing or folk preaching. King explores traditions relating to auctions or “sales” and the techniques employed by auctioneers to ensure the event runs smoothly. King’s paper includes a reel-to-reel audiorecording of several auctions throughout the state along with brief descriptions of each sale and pertinent background information relating to the auctioneer.
