Photostat of a letter written at Washington, D.C. on 20 January 1861 by Jefferson Davis to President Frankin Pierce advising of his resignation from the U.S. Senate and his intention to return to Mississippi. Davis also comments on the unsettled conditions following Mississippi's secession from the Union. Original in Library of Congress.
