Built as a relay house and stagecoach stop in 1833 by Major John Gray, the Stagecoach Inn (originally named Gray's Inn) served as lodging for travelers through Kentucky. It has also seen service as a Civil War hospital, tavern, church as well as restaurant.
The inn is believed to have hosted military escorts of the Cherokee when moved from ancestral homes to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears in 1838.
