Abstract
Cell-free extracts of human mucosa bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus faecalis, Clostridium perfringens, Bacteroides fragilis, Escherichia coli, and the pathogenic yeast Candida albicans were employed to activate the premutagen, aflaxtoxin B1, to its mutagenic potential. A modification of the Salmonella typhimurium/microsome mutagenicity test employing cell-free extracts of the mucosa microorganisms rather than a rat-liver activating system was used to detect activation. All of the microbial extracts tested activated aflatoxin B1 which induced the reversion of Salmonella typhimurium TA98 and TA100 to the wild type his G-46.
