Abstract

Memories and Mysteries is a collection of autobiographical narrative essays and a few poems. These roughly cover the first forty years of my life, 1946-1986, but they also contain some data and observations about the period 1986-1996 which more closely precedes the writing of the essays. The essays are generally brief, approximately three or four pages. Also, they are arranged as closely as possible in a chronological order. One purpose for writing this collection has been to revisit my past so I can understand myself better and so my children will have a record of my personal history, as well as of our time together. Of course, my primary purpose has been to learn from the writing experience and to attempt to achieve a level of excellence in the effort.
