Abstract
This research study was initiated in order to determine the efficacy of the Minority Educator Recruitment and Retention Scholarship Program (MERR) at a public, four-year institution in the southeastern portion of the United States between 1994 and 2000. To that end, 135 recipients of the MERR Scholarship were compared with 135 non-MERR recipients. Specifically, the project’s purpose was to determine whether the MERR Scholarship Program has an impact on those students who participated in the scholarship program. Furthermore, the project determined whether there is a significant difference in the percentages of MERR scholarship recipients who become certified when compared to non-MERR students. This project, therefore, supports the efficacy of the MERR Scholarship Program and the importance of this type of initiative.
