Abstract
FAMILY RESEMBLANCE is a feature-length screenplay about Dani Amato, a perfectionist struggling to regain control over her chaotic life, and her complicated relatives who stand in her way. After Dani’s mother Sylvia injures herself in a drunken car wreck, Dani begs her estranged brother and aspiring filmmaker nephew to move in with her while she looks after Sylvia. As Dani grapples with her role as the family’s “fixer,” she struggles to mend her own life in the midst of a marriage separation, infertility, and chronic sleepwalking. This dramedy explores the complexities of familial love, addiction, control, and acceptance through the eyes of a protagonist who refuses to accept the things she cannot change. Included with the script is an introduction detailing the creative process and influences behind the work.
