Description
The bronze piece was dedicated in October 2008 in conjunction with the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth and the opening of the Abraham Lincoln and Civil War exhibit in the Kentucky Museum. The likeness of our nation’s sixteenth president is placed on the bench as if taking a break from the period’s turmoil. This location is appropriate for a number of reasons, as Bowling Green was once the capitol of Kentucky’s Confederate sympathizers who retreated from the hill as Union forces pressed in to occupy the fort for the duration of the war.[Outdoor Sculpture Campus Tour]
