Description

In 1923 the university was casting about for a title for a new promotional publication. Some of the possibilities considered by president Henry Cherry were:

  • The Heights
  • The Elevator
  • The Rising Sun
  • The Rising Bell
  • The Heights's Vision
  • The Heights & Vision
  • The Illuminator
  • The Hill's Torchlight
  • The Hill's Beacon Light
  • The Tower
  • The Skylight
  • The Lantern
  • The Hill's Lantern
  • The Hill's Rising Bell
  • The Hill's Ringing Bell
  • The Voice of the Hill
  • The Vision of the Hill
  • College Heights Lantern
  • College Heights

In discussing the possibilities with A.L. Crabb, Henry Cherry said:

I am wondering if we are going to get a better name than College Heights. After thinking over a thousand things I believe that we will not do better than to adopt "College Heights."

In the end, the publication was named Teachers College Heights and ran from 1923 through 1958. You can read issues of here.
