Political cartoon depicting the 1888 North Carolina gubernatorial election, in which white voters supported Democratic candidate Daniel Gould Fowle and Black voters supported Republican candidate Oliver Dockery. Dockery lost the election and was appointed consul general to Brazil in 1889.
