. . . to meet us as any of our union friends. They have smiling countenances but hatred at the heart. Aunt Minerva did first rate. She had every thing sent to the country and kept the cellar locked with an eye to every thing. Most of the fruit was buried only leaving out a part of each to pre- vent suspicion. She speaks well of Gen Buckner. After Bucker left she had Gen Hindman and Gen Chambers and after the Secesh left she had union officers. Aunt Minerva went to Louisville yesterday. I gave her a pass to go where she pleased, stay as long as she chose and return when it suited her.

I sent the strawberry plants a few days ago. After I sent them I was sorry I did not wrap some oil cloth around them. They may go in safety. If they do not live let me know and I will be more careful next time. Let me know by first opportunity as I may have occasion to send plants by mail to others.

We have had a day or two of delightful weather. Whenever I could snatch a few minutes I have . . .
