Sterling and the eventual establishment of a subscription library, the Mt. Sterling Library Association. This organization was eventually managed by the Mt. Sterling Woman’s Club. Mary T. Kennedy donated her home for the library’s use upon her death; it served as the library from 1962 to 1984. A library taxing district was established in 1981 to fund the library, and new library building opened to the public in 1984.
