Abstract

Finding aid, scan and typescript (Click on "Additional Files" below) for Manuscripts Small Collection 3365. Letter, 21 August 1818, of Silas Hubbard, Lexington, Kentucky, to his brother Ebenezer Hubbard, Concord, Massachusetts. He urges Ebenezer to forgo his intention to enter the weaving business in Massachusetts and join him in operating looms in Kentucky. He praises the state’s schools, churches and climate, and is confident of opportunities awaiting those “not born with the foolish notion that they must brood over the ashes of their ancestors.” He reports on possible locations for their enterprise that are near good mill streams, including a site near the Green River in Barren County.
