Description
Born in 1874, Nettie Depp is celebrated today as Kentucky’s first female elected to public office as the superintendent for Barren County in 1913. Nettie believed that education was important, so in 1901 she began seeking a higher education at the Southern Normal Institute, now a part of Western Kentucky University. Depp became the first Barron County student to complete her studies at the Normal institute.
