Description

College Heights Herald article about Pat Norman:

"I was just too happy for words," said Pat Norman, Western's 1963 Homecoming Queen.

Pat, senior commerce major from Glasgow, was crowned at the Homecoming Dance Friday by Dr. Merrill W. Schell, president of Western Alumni Association.

It was amid music, tears, and laughter that the Queen and her court reigned over the gala occasion. Attendants to the Queen were Sylvia Terry, senior, Paducah; Christine DeVries, junior, Bowling Green; Carolyn McClard, junior, Bowling Green; Linda Thomas sophomore, Burkesville; and Kay Washer, sophomore, Auburn.

Dancing to the music of the Tommy Knowles Orchestra, a crowd of approximately 725 people set a record attendance for a Western Homecoming dance.

Decorations of red and white transformed the Old Red Barn into a dance pavilion fit for any queen.

A highlight of the evening came when Queen Pat was presented a telegram from Governor Bert Combs which read as follows: "It gives me much pleasure to extend congratulations as you are crowned Western's Homecoming Queen for 1963. Great tribute has been paid to you, and I rejoice with you in this honor. Best wishes for a successful reign in every way you may represent Western."
