Abstract

This structured discussion will focus on what has been learned over 10+ years of publishing a student-focused research journal. Main topics will include 1) student involvement in the research process from a publishing, reviewing, and editorial board perspective; 2) best practices and tips for students to avoid pitfalls while preparing their work as well as while serving as a manuscript reviewer for the journal; and 3) the recently implemented ethical statement. This will be a candid discussion of what we have found works for the International Journal of Exercise Science, as well as initiatives that have not gone as planned. The objective of this tutorial is for students and professionals to be introduced to navigating a research journal’s manuscript submission and review process (may also apply to other journals).
