Abstract

The mentorship relationship is of great importance to a students’ personal and professional success. With mentorship, a mentee is guided and supported in their personal and professional endeavors by a mentor, who shares the experience, knowledge, and insight that they have gained. A strong mentor/mentee relationship provides benefits to both parties, but also requires proactive participation for both the mentee and mentor to create, build, and grow the relationship. The purpose of this tutorial is to examine mentorship and its importance to student and professional success. This tutorial will provide reasoning for why the mentorship relationship is so important to a mentee in personal and professional growth, defining responsibilities of the mentor/mentee in the relationship, and tips for seeking, establishing, and maintaining a mentor/mentee relationship.
