Hawaii and its music by Eddie Alkire. Hawaiian guitar promotional booklet regarding Hawaii, Hawaiian guitar and its instruction. Library copy previously belonged to Bowling Green, Ky., musician Freddie Joe Lewis (1910-2005).
Elbern "Eddie" Alkire was inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 1983. Born in Hacker Valley, West Virginia, he became a master teacher, composer, performer, instrument maker and music publisher. He invented the Alkire Eharp and made innovations in the 10-string steel guitar. Alkire past away January 25, 1981.
Alkire's personal papers and instrument collection is housed in the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music at the University of Illinois. A finding aid for the collection is available online:
