Description

Albert system B flat clarinet made by Lafayette Paris. Five piece clarinet is made of grenadilla wood with nickel keys. Barrel may not be original and is possibly composite instead of wood.

This clarinet was used by Richard Grise as a child in the WKU Training School Band. According to the donor, he began playing clarinet when he attended the Training School in the late 1920s. He studied under Professor Strahm, and he eventually rose to second chair in the College High Orchestra. W.O. Matthews was the principal. Grise also played in the marching band.
