Description
Diary entry Monday May 31 - Simpson's on the Strand, Savoy Hotel
We up between 8 & 8:30 - bathe - dress. We had breakfast in our rooms to save time Mr. & Mrs. Moskovitz were also here. As it was we were a bit late meeting Paul at 10 and getting started on our sightseeing. Duncan stayed and read papers & rested while we were touring about. Paul took us first to Buckingham Palace to see the Changing of the Guard. Instead we got in on the rehearsal of the Trooping of the Color for the Queen's official birthday on June 10th. This was a thrill & very colorful. We went to see Westminster Cathedral, the Catholic Cathedral here which was lovely. Next we went to Westminster Abbey which was even more lovely. We also went to St. Paul's which was very beautiful also. Back to the hotel & we were escorted over to Simpson's on the Strand by Mr. Childs. We had a very delightful lunch roast beef with pictures. This went on for quite a time. After which we were escorted back to the hotel by the Man from Simpson's & it took a bit more time before we were able to start out again. Poor Paul waited for us more than an hour. We took Duncan with us this time. We drove around the city for quite a while, went to the Tower of London, but since there was quite a queue waiting to see the Crown Jewels, we didn't wait. Saw Hyde Park, St. James Palace, Kensington Palace, Kensington Road & the business district, and a lot of interesting things - Piccadilly Circus, the Albert Memorial. Back to the hotel, had some team, dressed & sat at 7 for pictures with Mr. Haffner, the Mgr, the Chef & we ended by visiting & drinking Champagne until nearly 9:30. Had dinner in the Savoy Grill. We had lovely Dover sole ---- by that time I was so exhausted I couldn't eat my dinner. To bed later than we wanted to be.
