Postcard of Oude Schans with Montelbaans Tower, Ambsterdam in Ilee Smith's European scrapbook. She captioned this card "Sun. July 6. Took boat excusion of the city. Again - misty rain. A town of bicycles - side walk had grooves to park the bicycles in. Roses in bloom everywhere. Bicycling interesting - seat for child in front & in back of cycles seat." Montelbaans Tower was originally built as part of the city's outer wall for defense and protection.
