Abstract
There is an ongoing problem surrounding eating disorders and body dissatisfaction in school aged youth. School psychologists play a major role in ensuring the safety and success of students in the school. Despite the prevalence of these issues in children and adolescence, it is unknown how regularly the field of school psychology is publishing articles that examine eating disorders and body dissatisfaction. This project was a systematic review of school psychology journals to explore the trends in publications related to eating disorders. Specifically, articles published within school psychology journals with the search terms “eating disorder,” “body image,” “body dissatisfaction,” “anorexia,” “bulimia,” “binge-eating disorder,” and “ARFID” were examined. Results found 34 articles within school psychology journals related to key terms with only 14% including recommendations for school psychology practice. Types of articles published, and recommendations provided for school psychology practice are discussed. More research is needed on how school psychologists can use their skills to help students with eating disorders in their schools.
