Description
Kelly Thompson resigns as president of WKU. On May 21, 1969 the regents held a morning meeting. Around ten o'clock the faculty and staff were informed that a called meeting would be held in the Garrett Center Ballroom at 12:10. Before a hushed, almost incredulous assembly, Thompson read the resignation statement he had presented to the regents. Dissatisfied with his health, which made it impossible for him to function as he wished, he had decided during the fall that he would retire in 1969 or 1970. He offered to continue on a part-time basis with the College Heights Foundation, which needed attention, and to complete the long-range planning project that was underway.
