Scrapbook kept by J. P. Masters regarding his work as a manager of motion picture theaters in Bowling Green, Ky., for the Crescent Amusement Company of Nashville, 1911 to 1960. Also includes newsclippings and political cards regarding his work as on the Board of Aldermen, Armed Forces Advisory Council, the College Heights Foundation board, and the Western Kentucky State College Board of Regents. Scrapbook includes numerous photographs, including Capitol Theater, Gala Grand opening, interior images, and autographed images of Cecil B. DeMille, Steve Cochran, and Gene Autry, newsclippings and programs.
Masters first moved to Bowling Green, KY, to manage the Columbia Theater which opened June 15, 1911 at 416 E. Main Street. He managed the Columbia Theater (beginning in 1911, the Princess Theatre (1914-1921), the Elite Theatre, the Diamond Theatre (beginning in 1922) and the Capitol Theatre (1921-1960).
Also included is an obituary for his mother, Georgia Post Masters dated December 17, 1951 and obituaries for motion picture industry businessmen. News clippings document Bowling Green's efforts to secure a Ken-Rad plant during World War II, war bond drives, local entertainment, the municipal airport, and the Bowling Green-Warren County Victory Club.
