Abstract

First responders and military personnel have some of the most physically demanding occupations in our society. However, workplace stress, poor eating habits, shift work and the need to perform strenuous physical tasks under life threatening situations can pose serious health hazards in this population. The primary focus of this presentation is to provide practical, evidence-based, information to aid in the development of a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for the tactical athlete.

Objectives: 1. Understand the physical demands of tactical personnel 2. Identify primary injury sites within these populations 3. Understand the similarities and differences between “tactical athletes” and “sports athlete” 4. Learn strategies for developing strength training and conditioning programs for the tactical based on their unique needs and challenge
