Bird of Paradise [25 pounds, cloth flour bag] produced by the Standard Milling Company in Elkton, Kentucky. The bag was manufactured by the Werthan Bag Company of Nashville, Tennessee. This white cotton bag with polychrome inking features an exotic bird. Flour bags such as this were often bleached and then used for all types of purposes: backing for quilts, utilitarian rags and towels, curtains, even clothing.
