Description
Triumph [24 pounds, cloth four bag] produced by the Parksville Roller Mills and operated by Nelson Powell in Parksville, Kentucky. This bag prominently features an image of George Washington. Few people in nineteenth century America were more revered than George Washington and his venerable wife Martha. Many homes proudly featured printed portraits of the President and First Lady. Obviouslythe printing registers were slightly askew, as it appears as if Washington's right eye is sporting a shiner (black eye). The oval's chartreuse green background draws attention to the Washington bust. Using Washington's image was an effort to associate the product with a respected and beloved historical figure.
